Beta build of easy PC texting v2.3 is now available for download

by Alex 1. December 2008 17:45

Finally, after several weeks of re-working the connection module and fixing bunch of bugs, please allow us to introduce the first beta build of the upcoming v2.3 release of easy PC texting.

What's most important about this release is that it now works with most of the GSM phones that we didn't support previously. Pretty much every Bluetooth stack (e.g WIDCOMM, Toshiba) is now supported too! Also you'll notice that you can send SMS messages much faster with this release!

It's a stable build that only works with Bluetooth. Support for cable connections is disabled as there’re still some showstoppers that need fixing...

Please give it a try and let us know in case your cell phone is still not supported. Drop us a line if you see a bug or something doesn't work the way you want and we'll try to address it in v2.3.

To give you an idea of what is coming in the new version of easy PC texting (v2.3), I'm posting couple of screenshots of our new phone detection wizard. It's still in a prototype mode, though you can see already the direction we're taking with it..

It’s just one of many improvements we’re planning to release in v2.3.

Supported cell phone models in v2.2

by Alex 20. October 2008 15:14

There have been some confusion in regards the cell phone models that easy PC texting v2.2 currently supports.

Unfortunately, there's no simple answer or a list that we can share with you to address this at the moment. There're so many phone models out there and we can only test our software on a limited number of the devices...

In addition, we are currently adding support for more phones and can't really comment on the details yet.

Here's some general guidelines that might help.

Currently, easy PC texting v2.2 doesn't work with the following:

  •   Most of Nokia smart phones (fixed in v2.3)
  •   Most of Blackberry phones (needs testing in v2.3)
  •   Any phones that operate on the CDMA networks
  •   Phones that don't have the capability to connect to your computer via Bluetooth or USB cable via Serial communications (i.e on a virtual COM port)
  •   iPhone

Most of these will be covered with the release of v2.3 slated for the end of Novemeber 2008. Please stay tuned!

Installing on Vista...

by Alex 11. October 2008 16:47

We have received several reports that v2.2 of easy PC texting has failed to install on Vista machines where UAC (User Account Control) was turned on.

The issue was reproduced, and we're now working with a third-party trying to get the problem addressed. If you are having troubles installing v2.2 on Vista, we recommend to turn UAC off before running the installation. Once the application is installed, you can turn it back on.

Several solutions are described here: http://vistafaqs.com/viewfaq.aspx?faq=105

UPDATE: For those who don't want to turn UAC off, we have prepared a special build that shouldn't have any issues with Vista. Please find a link to the zip archive below (just unzip and run setup.exe).

New release is out!

by Alex 30. September 2008 17:09

Summer is over, vacations are over, hard work is back!

And so we are releasing version 2.2 of easy PC texting.

What is there for you, you'd ask? Well, there're few goodies, that's for sure. I think most of you will likely find the ability to customize colors in the message history box pretty useful. If you are one of the folks who were upset with the lack of the searching capability in the message history, that's solved now too in v 2.2!

We are still not sure if this is something that will get accepted well, though there's a new web browser integration that will allow you to send SMS notes right from within your web browser with just two mouse clicks. Personally I find myself using this new feature more and more. If you want to dig a little deeper into what has been changed/fixed/added in v 2.2, here's a good starting point: release notes.

As always, we are desperately looking for your feedback on anything involving easy PC texting. Do you like the new version? What would you like to see in v 2.3? Is there something that you really hate when dealing with our software? Please let us know.
